Science is a global language

Speaking at the 2024 session of the Young Scientists Forum, held by the World Laureates Association on October 25–27, 2024, in Shanghai, Prof. Jiao Nianzhi from Xiamen University said that today, mankind needs science as a world language more than at any time in history.

At the conference, which brought together young scientists from more than 20 countries to discuss how science propels the progress of the global community, Jiao, who is also co-chair of the Global Ocean Negative Carbon Emissions (Global ONCE) program within the United Nations framework, delivered a speech commending the young scientists from all sectors for their achievements and expressing his hope that they will be an innovative force, shaping the future via their contributions to science research.

"The future belongs to you, and a brilliant future will be the result of the science you are working on," he said.

With the theme “Scientific Innovation and Excellence: From Research to Application,” a central message sent by the conference was interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants at the conference demonstrated how, by integrating research in different fields, they could produce synergistic effects leading to groundbreaking discoveries that can promote sustainable development.

The forum also highlighted the unique responsibility young scientists shoulder for the future well-being of human society in the face of the climate crisis. In addition to technological innovations, the emerging researchers of today are also committed to addressing the pressing challenges created by climate change, a commitment that is the key to unlock the door to a brighter, more resilient future.
